Kent Centre Lifeskills Club – Meeting #2

The second meeting of the At Home Kitchen Club was held on October 6th. We started with the 4-H pledge and the roll call, which was: Have you ever been apple picking and what is your favourite type of apple.

Our first activity for this meeting was an apple turkey where we decorated an apple to look like a turkey using jelly candies and raisins using toothpicks.

The second activity was chocolate and granola apple wedges. We melted chocolate chips and dipped the apple slices on one side. Then we dipped the apple pieces into granola and set them on parchment paper to dry.

Our third activity was a lacy clay container. We molded the clay around a tin can and then rolled it over a doily or used a knife to carve designs into the clay. Then we let it air dry.

Our next meeting will be October 13, 2020.

Thamesville Lifeskills Club – Meeting #4

On November 29th the Home For The Holidays Club met at the St.Paul Catholic Church in Thamesville. This meeting we had a visitor. Anne needed an extra volunteer and called in her friend Debbie. Debbie claimed to be mean but we enjoyed her company! We started with the 4-H pledge and continued from there. Debbie took one group to decorate cookies and brownies and Anne took the other to decorate cookies and make fire starters. The group with Debbie was able to sponge paint cookies by dipping a clean sponge in icing and dabbing it on the cookies. We had the opportunity to paint the icing on to the cookies too! We were allowed to ice and put sprinkles on the brownies as well. The first group with Anne had taken crayons and melted them along with paraffin wax. They cut out cookies and put sprinkles on them and then baked them. In the meantime that group rolled pine cones in the wax, let them dry, and then rolled them in melted crayon. There you have it! A fire starter! We divided the cookies up and took our now dry glue string shapes off the plate and pins. Since Anne’s last name is Dutch she brought us a treat since the Dutch Christmas was so soon called Tai Tais. Licorice flavoured cookies. Those were great! Jacklin made a motion to adjourn the meeting.

Fact of the week ~ The Dutch Christmas is December 6th.

Kent Centre Lifeskills – Achievement Night

The members of the Crazy Crafters and their families met at Paul Campbell trucking board room at 7:00 pm on Wednesday June 20th for our achievement night.  Hamna opened the meeting and we said the 4-H pledge. We then did a meeting recap to inform our families as to what we had done at each meeting. At our last meeting, members had been partnered up and assigned a meeting to report on.

We then started the fun stuff.  Minute to win it, (craft version) parents vs kids.  We played many different fun and amusing games. Such as tallest tower made of marshmallows, longest paper chain,  blow painting, pictionary, and rock painting just to name a few. In the end it was a tie. We then enjoyed some treats and refreshments provided by the leaders and members. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.

Thank you to our leaders Stephanie and Janet Campbell and Alex Richardson for a great club.

Kent Centre Lifeskills – Meeting #6

The members of the crazy crafters met at Paul Campbell Trucking boardroom June the 6th.  First Hamna opened the meeting and we did the 4-H pledge.  The roll call question was, “What was your favourite craft that you made this club?” The two main answers was a pillow case that we had stencilled on and string art for mother’s day.  We then had a press report update.

Next we split into 3 groups. Oe group heat set our dishcloths that we had silk screened the meeting before with an iron. We did this so that the paint doesn’t run when we wash it.  The second group wrote a little paragraph on the meeting we were assigned for achievement night.  The third group made a father’s day gift. We did this by screwing together wood that we had cut and stained the meeting before.  We then stencilled on a saying of our choice.  Our options were Grillin’ and Chillin’, Tools and Things and Movin’ and Groovin’. We switched stations until every group had been to all the stations.  The meeting was adjourned at 9:00, achievement night will be on June 20th at Paul Campbell trucking boardroom.

Kent Centre Lifeskills – Meeting #2

The members of the Crazy Crafters met at Paul Campbell Trucking boardroom, on May 2nd, 2018 at 7:00.  Hamna called the meeting to order, then we did the 4-H pledge.  The minutes from the last meeting were read.  The roll call question was have you ever done string art, only a few people had.  Then there was a press report update.  Next we did string art for mother’s day.  This is what we had to do, first we had to take our 2 foot long wood board, that had already been stained and cut for us and hammered nails into it in the shape of bubble letter mom.  When we were done that, we took all different colours of string and strung the outside and inside of the letters.  After that we took 4 clothes pins and hot glued them at the top for pictures.  The meeting was adjourned at 9:00.  The next meeting will be on Wednesday  May 9th at Paul Campbell Trucking boardroom from 7:00 to 9:00.

Kent Centre Lifeskills – Meeting #1

The members of the Crazy Crafters met at Paul Campbell Trucking Boardroom, on Mull Road at 7:00 pm on April 25th, 2018.  The first thing we did was open the meeting with the 4-H Pledge.  The Roll Call question was what is one of your favourite crafts that you have made.  Some of the answers were friendship bracelets, tissue paper flowers, an owl made up of clay and many more.

Since this was our first night we played some mixers.  Next we did Elections of Officers.  President – Hamna, Vice-President – Erin, Secretary – Lauren, Press Reporter – Amy, Photographer – Hanna.

After this, we chose a club name; we finally decided that our club name would be The Crazy Crafters.  Next we did some judging.  After we decided that we should write on a piece of paper, a craft we would like to make.  Next we made a small craft.

Here is what we did, first we cut wood into a square and repeated that, until we had the right amount of squares.  Next we took stencils and paint, and painted 1 letter on each square eventually we got a word.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm. The next meeting will be on Wednesday May 4th at Paul Campbell Trucking Boardroom at 7:00 pm.
