On July 27, 2016, the “Tapping into the Roots of Sugar” sugar beet club met at the Ridgetown College for the annual Chatham-Kent judging night, as well as the second meeting for the club.
Registration began at 6:00pm, where members were divided by age into four groups, comprising of novice, junior, intermediate, and senior. This was followed by judging to start at 6:30pm. Members were asked to judge 6 classes, giving reasons for 2 of these depending on which group they had entered. These classes included maple syrup, vegetable, baked goods, sheep, poultry and grain. The officials for each class gave helpful hints of things to look for, and the members began to judge.
There was a BBQ held upon completion, and official reasoning and placings were given, and will also be posted in the upcoming newsletter. The next meeting will be held August 10, 2016, at 7:00pm at the McKerrall’s home.
