On Friday, March 11 2016 at 6:30 pm the Merlin 4-H Field Crop Club met for the first time in 2016. The meeting was held at the residence of Gerry and Martha Sullivan.
The meeting started off with a group mixer activity in which all members discussed which three items they would save if their home was on fire. This gave everyone the opportunity to discuss themselves and their first priorities.
After the mixer activity, the group was asked the roll call question “What would you like to learn in 4-H this year?” Answers included how to grow a new crop and how to start a garden. Next, the responsibilities and obligations of being a 4-H member were discussed.
Shaun Sullivan then led the group in a judging activity called “Mits for a Tot”. In this activity Shaun showed the members how to judge items using mittens, he judged the mittens based upon their condition, physical appearance and functionality. This exercise was used to prepare members for judging night.
Following judging, Marg Nauta discussed options for the club’s name. Several names were discussed and the name “Merlin 4-H Perfect Planters” was decided upon collectively. Marg then read over the executive positions and voting was held: President – Ben Rhodes, Vice President – Shaun Sullivan, Press Reporter – Ally Thomas and Secretary – Tamara Jack.
The meeting was then adjourned and Ben thanked the Sullivan’s for hosting the meeting. Refreshments were served.
